Lumiya SL Viewer for Android Gets Major UI Update
Lumiya, the SL viewer for Android devices, recently got a whole host of updates that longtime SL artist Douglas Story just e-mailed me excitedly about. (Disclosure: Lumiya and its talented creator, Alina Lyvette, were NWN media partners a few years ago, but I sadly haven't heard from her in awhile.) I don't regularly use an Android device or currently have one on-hand, so let Mr. Story tell you what's in store:
"The UI has changed extensively, with a completely different (and more 'app-like', if you will) layout. But the main thing is that you can now zoom and cam around using pinch and drag on the screen. MUCH easier. The new version also allows you to activate animations, so now you can do the Funky Chicken whenever you desire. There's the introduction of persistent chat records and a whole raft of other features. Given that there are tens of thousands of these already bought and paid for, the fact that she did this free major upgrade suggests to me that this is a labor of love for her."
He's not kidding about "tens of thousands": Google Play indicates Lumiya has been downloaded 50,000-100,000 times, which is something like 1 in 10 or more of the total active SL userbase of some 600,000. Anyway, go here to read more about the app's update history, and here to download.

And as death approached, the artist’s son did an extraordinary thing: He began to build a place that would live on after his father, made with particles of light. That is to say, Sander Vos logged into Second Life, and made a gallery of his father’s work in digital 3D... “I started building a 3D version of one of his drawings, ‘Villa Insight’ in Second Life, while he was ill, because building makes me calm in a way,” Sander tells me. “I had to think practical all the time, like: How on earth am I going to make this little ink bottle with prims? And I was busy with him at the same time, ‘cause it was all about him of course."
I just checked the gallery's original location, and it seems to be gone. So if that's right, Ms. Coppola's tribute is all that remains of the place: Machinima of a virtual museum featuring digitized recreations of real world illustrations, created by the real life son of the artist who made it all possible.

I am new to blender and avastar, and I have a couple dev kits, including zerothe10th's maitreya upload. I am wondering how to use the developer kits, I have trouble with youtube videos because I have a short term memory problem that makes it much easier for me to learn through written word than spoken word. I need to know how to upload the mesh clothing to rig it on whichever mesh body I may be using, most likely maitreya as its what I wear. I need to know how to upload my mesh file while I have my mesh avastar up, , how I can properly rig something without distorting too much, and then how to texture it correctly if that will be needed. Please if you could even drop a bunch of youtube videos for me, it would help quite a bit, I am getting the hang of it but I really need to read it in text... though ANYTHING AT ALL will help! Thank you for reading guys.
